The Better the Packing, the Better the South Florida Move
We understand that professional packing is an added expense you may not want to pay for. If you are someone who prefers to do their own packing, don’t be afraid to ask your South Florida moving consultant for advice, and if they have containers and materials that you can purchase.
However, we do recommend you always leave your delicate and fragile items to the professionals to prevent any damages from happening during the move.
Don’t Use Newspaper When Packing
You don’t want to risk making a mistake by using a newspaper when packing. You should know that newspaper ink can easily fade and run into your items, especially in the South Florida sun. Consider this before wrapping your items up in newsprint.
Pack Toiletries in a Separate Bag
Ideally, a smaller bag is preferred, and make sure all caps and corks are closed properly to prevent a spill during transport. It gets hot in South Florida and spillage can result.
Don’t Pack Things Too Tightly
Give fragile items room to breathe to avoid breakage.
Leave Fitted Sheet on the Bed
This can keep the mattress from getting dirty during moving day.
Don’t Pile All Your Linens in One Box
Putting all your linens in one box can become very heavy. We recommend using linens as cushions in different boxes to keep fragile items safe.
Place Heavy Items On the Bottom
Leave the heavy items on the bottom to avoid squishing or damaging light and smaller items.
Electronics
Place your TVs, monitors, and gaming consoles back into the original boxes they were purchased in. If you no longer have those boxes speak to your mover about packing them.
Label the Boxes
On the outside of the carton, label the contents in the box, list a room they belong to and indicate if the contexts are fragile.
First Night Box
Put all your belongings you will need on the move-in night in one box, so you don’t need to go searching through all your boxes. Read this article for items you might want to pack in this box.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, there is a lot to consider when packing your items for a move. Though this task may seem daunting, we recommend you take your time and do plenty of research before you even pack your first item. Be sure to consult the professionals at your South Florida moving company for any questions that you have.
